about

Earliest surviving/listenable recordings by Archie Powell IV, this record was created in my bedroom at my parents' house during my freshman year of high school, if I'm not mistaken. Originally featured a 9 minute ballad about a girl who didn't last; that song was recognized as a failure and thrown out, eventually to be replaced by "Oceans", written shortly after the new muse arrived in my life. "44" was my first attempt at a multi-part song; the intro, first few verses and ending were recorded in 3 separate segments and spliced together digitally. I also programmed out the drums as opposed to just using a loop, a rare bit of extra effort on my behalf. "Mountain" is still one of my favorites of my own, though not for any reason I can put my finger on. Finally, I think "Bones and Emptiness" was arguably the most popular track, being bumped in the afternoons several times before summer really hit, with its' own no-budget music video getting triple-digit views on YouTube.

Honestly, I'm proud of this album and of these songs I wrote. I still play some of them to this day and I'll probably keep playing them til I forget all about them myself. This is in no way perfect; it's hardly even a failing grade going by a normal set of standards. But for a record made by some dopey teenager with no voice, a cheap keyboard, a bass and a Telecaster, I think it stands the test of time pretty well. Thanks for listening and reading. I love you.

Track Name: 44
tell me it'll be alright and the taste will fade
take me deep inside the light it's blinding in the shade
you know after this that things will never be the same
tell me that you love me, i don't even know your name

and i find
it gets better with time
and i know
i haven't got a lot to show
but you see
you belong alone with me
so i'll wait
for you

show me all around and lock me outside in the cold
try to run me down and then find out that you're too old
you know after this that you can't come back here again
you just brought it all to an end

[part ii]

i can see you swimmin
i can feel you comin
i will have you soon

i can see your soul
you will make me whole
you are the piece
it takes to make me complete
Track Name: Mountain
see though the other side
they fall and crawl
i can't in you confide
divide and then they fall
stolen from myself
you just strung me along
been left upon the shelf for much too long

i see the other side, mountain in the way

fabric and sinkin in
wastin my time
spiders to chew the skin
they strung a line
leanin against the wall
you let me down
a mouth of taste befall
you let me drown
Track Name: Monsoon Season
lick felt in a restaurant
inner sexuality
bees with lovely clients

you're alleged entertaining
a tournament of lies
an addendum to a new hotel

ions benefit laden in tears
siamese risks in hats
in again, in again, out again
we watch them stop

crafts of mystic river
elemental test of fire
diesel gets a sunken

cleaning is word benefit
i'm a worldly airman
controlling madrid darren fur
Track Name: Desert Eyes
the wind picks up
stirs the dust
about two stomp
across from us
particles
glowing dull
never know
they rust the hull

it falls apart before my desert eyes
once again, a tundra i surmise

it's worthless now
all used up
i'm starin at
an empty cup
left it here
just to rot
the lukewarm air
was much too hot

my tattered flag still flies high
once again, a brand new way to die
it falls apart before my desert eyes
once again, a tundra i surmise

i've got my sight
obscured by clouds
you know i might
it's much too loud
to hear the screams
of all the gone
a powerful gleam
signs the dawn

can't wait to leave the broken sky
i found a way to crash before i fly
my tattered flag still flies high
once again, a brand new way to die
it falls apart before my desert eyes
once again, a tundra i surmise
can't wait to leave the broken sky
i found a way to crash before i fly
Track Name: Oceans
oceans of time between you and i
i'll wait for you if you'll wait too
you are the only one i will hold in my arms
you are the only one who belongs in my heart

i send a message and hope you read it one day
i hope it brings a smile to your face
my ship has sailed and i'm far away
but you'll get here one day
